Trump Administration Presses Cities to Evict Homeowners from Flood Zones

An article posted in the New York Times today describes the choice that cities facing rising sea levels must make: agree to use eminent domain to force people out of flood-prone homes, or forfeit federal funds for combatting climate change. 

"Even as President Trump publicly dismisses the scientific consensus of climate change, his administration is wrestling with how to move people out of the way of rising seas and increasingly intense rainfall," according to the article. 

Federally-funded buyouts have typically been voluntary, and the use of eminent domain is viewed as an extreme measure that cities are loathe to do. However, in a sign of how bad the dilemma that rising sea levels and flooding has created, some cities are indicating a willingness to do so.
